%X This work aimed at the development of a simple methodology for discovery the soil-relief relationships, from geomorphometric and published soil maps, whit application of basic digital processing images tools in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and imaging interpretation techniques. The 1:100 000 soil survey map of São Carlos, São Paulo State, was used as the soil data source; this was accomplished with SRTM data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission), the local geomorphometric data base TOPODATA, and geomorphometric regional (non-local) variables, extracted from elevation data through algorithms developed within this research. The main results of this work included algorithms for regional analysis of SRTM, a regional geomorphometric data base of São Carlos, a geomorphometric description of the occurring soils and an indication of the geomorphometric variables potentially useful to separate their mapping units.
